Okay, here it goes. See, its parent-teacher conference week and I told my 5th graders that if they come to the conference they get a raffle ticket for a prize. Now, we all know how difficult it is for these kids to sit there and here the good(and bad) about them and most of them translated it to their parents also. Well, all of them so far(20) have come. Yep, bribery still works! Anyway, it looks like its going to be quite a raffle. My question to you all...
What kind of prize should it be? I'm thinking of something related to schoool (notebooks, pencils, etc). What would your kids think was cool? I'm also thinking there are so many tickets that maybe have 3 prizes. What do you all think? I'll be choosing the winner Friday.
Bassy

What price range?

Go for movie passes, pizza party or something that can be used by the entire family for one prize. School stuff for the other prizes maybe. Maybe some fun pens or markers, the glitter markers or something. Anything else would have to be gender specific.

I would suggest either school related or family orientated. If school make it fun not serious.

Yeah, I was thinking Thanksgiving coming up, doing something along that line. Like a reward for the whole family like you said. Hey, great ideas too. Thanks.

Bassy
For the raffle
Make it fun for the kids. Or they won't want to come back next time.

School stuff YUCK! (Boy here) ;)
I like it all being family stuff on the way home after the PTA. Or PTC as you said.

Three winning tickets maybe high end Movies or Pizza for the family.

All the rest maybe a free soda or something on the way home. BK, Micky Dees. etc These people would be more than glad to give free tickets as they know once in they will up-sell..

Just my .02 :)

I like the movie tickets idea. But you know, the competition inspired made them oblivious to what the prize would be. They wanted to "be the winner". Given that fact, i would make the prizes something the child could carry to school every day as a "badge of honor", like a unique nootbook, pencils with a unique slogan on them like "I won with the P.T.C."
I realise that would be a day late and a dollar short, but food for thought on the next one -- and given the sucess of the program, there should be a NEXT time :)
And thank you for a job well done, Bassy!

A zoo pass for the winner worked well when my mom was a teacher. She said it was still educational and some children never get the opportunity to go. Just a thought.......SS

Bassy, I really dont intend to slam you on this but ya shoulda thought about what prizes you wanted to give before you made the offer. When I was in school we didnt get squat for showing up for things like that. We were told to be there and we were. If we didnt show there would be consequences and repercussions in the form of a 0 or something such as that.

i doubt any of them had their hearts set on anything really great like an xbox or anything. since they all showed up, maybe an ice cream party or something for everyone. but, i agree that it would be nice for their parents to get a little something out of it too. chucky cheese gift cert?

Extra recess time for the winner and 2 of their friends.

No homework for one night.

Front of the line for the winner and 2 friends for Lunch.

Let them teach the class for 1/2 day.

If all else fails have each child fill out a piece of paper of what they would like to win and have them hand it in. Then go through the suggestions removing the bad ones and place the remainder in a hat. Then when the winner of the drawing is known they get to pick from the hat (blind folded) to see what they won.

Movie tickets are a good idea.

But given that every child wants to win; it would be better for everyone to win.
A class ice-cream party.

Or a class field trip somewhere fun.

Take em all fishing.
