I just purchased a 1962 14' Starcraft Rocket with a 1965 40HP Big Twin Evinrude. Its water worthy but I am looking to do a complete restoration this winter. I am looking for pictures/ads anything depicting what this looked like originally. Specifically the seats/ dash and boat colors for the era.I ccan only find one small picture in an ad. I am very excited to get this underway and will provide pictures after the weekend. Pleasure to be aboard here and am looking forward to networking with fellow boat owners.

I also own a 12' 1962 Starcraft fishing boat that was my Dads. It has a 1956 7.5 fleetwin on it. He built a wood kit boat when he was a teenager and then purchased (with his sisters help) a 1956 15 hp Johnson that pulled waterskiers at our cottage on Bashan Lake in East Haddam Connecticut.
The 15 HP may go on this(Rocket) when I am finished.

Hi there Pauly and welcome , like oops said we cant wait to see her !!

I got a 1953 rude 15hp that me and my dad used on a 21 tri-hull as a kicker , it pushed that boat at a good clip !!i I also had it on a 14 foot flat bottom , and man it made that thing fly !!I know it could pull a skier on that !! I am going to put it on my 15 foot tri-hull I got going !!

So again welcome there are a great bunch of guys here , we all will help all we can !! John

Re: Need Pictures For Restoration "62" 14'Starcraft Rocket

Here are a few pictures of my boat. I will post a few more in the next post. The trailer is the Original trailer and rides unbelievably smooth with the shocks an springs. It seems the added 2x4 on the transom was used to raise the motor to evenout the cavitation plate of the motor with the bottom of the boat? If you notice the motor locks barely tighten to the top of the original transom.Thats why I assume the 2x4 was used merely to raise the motor. The motor seems HUGE for this boat, but it is rated up to 40hp max. Anyone know why there would be 2 drain plugs high on the transom that now have plugs in them? I haven't put her on the water yet, but the motor idles/ shifts perfectly in the drum. I will try to get it in he water next week if the lakes not to low.

Oopps I checked out fiberglassics and didn't see any pictures of the Rocket. There was a ad picture showing a white one/ and one was red/white. Bench seats front/back.
Still looking for real pics of this. Thanks for the replies and I will keep searching.

I bought a 1960 Rocket this past spring but sold it off (too many projects).

Go to the shareaproject link for some photos. Even though mine was a '60, I was told there were no changes to it from 60 to 65, so it should give you some ideas.

It does look like your splash pan in the rear was cut out.

Fix..Thats helpfull. The splashpan makes sense to me. It should be fun fabricating one to look as it should. By chance would you have a better picture of the back seat and its clearence from the splashpan? I am planning to start the floor in a few weeks, after my fishing is done.

Thanks again:D

Re: Need Pictures For Restoration "62" 14'Starcraft Rocket

Thanks Fix. I found a brochure from a 1964 starcraft. It shows front to back seats in one boat and front seats with rear bench like yours. This will do the trick. I would also like opinions on the transom. As you see in my pics, there is a 2x4 added to the height of the transom. Does anyone know if this motor should not be on this boat? Its a 1965. only 3 years after the boat was manufactured. It originally came with a Johnson, is there a height difference in the shaft from a 1962 40 johnson to a 1965 40Evy? This Big Twin is gigantic in size!!
