Took the boat out this weekend to fish and run the Grand kids around on the water. Was getting 40mph with me and the Admiral, at 4400 RPMS, with us two other adults and the 2 little ones it was 38 MPH at 41 - 4200 RPMS. My currant prop is 14X23 on a 150 Mercury came on the boat boat. I am thinking I should go with a 19 pitch, any ideas?

Since it's severly overpropped now you could possibly go to a 17. Anything with less pitch will be better.

What prop do you have now? Aluminum or stainless? 3 blade or 4?

Re: need new prop

Thanks for the reply. Its a Mercury Black Max aluminum. Yeah I know its over propped I used the prop wizard and a few other prop guides they all came up with either a 14 1/4X19 for overall performance and a 14 1/4X17 for tow sports. I use the boat mostly for fishing, only towing a tube around a few times a year.

If I were doing it I would think about a 17 4 blade, if you were thinking stainless. You could then raise the motor a little and gain overall.

A few pic's of the boat and motor setup. The motor is already set up 2 holes, the cave plate is up from even with the bottom a few inches. On tight turns it loses it bite. I don't think I should raise the motor any higher any advice would be great full.
I am planing on going with SS that is why I am asking the questions here. Was planing on a three blade but maybe a four would be better. Just trying to get it rite the first time, SS coast a lot of $$.

Re: need new prop

Your motor is mounted about as low as it can be. Looks like the bolt holes were drilled lower than they should have been, that's why the bolts are not in the top holes. Anyway, engine height has more to do with prop design than anything. Since you can only go up one hole (about 3/4", maybe a tad less) a 4 blade may not do you any good without a jackplate. A good ss 3 blade prop will give you your bite in the turns unless you're trimmed up too much.

Re: need new prop

I can still raise the motor 2 bolt holes aprox. 2 inches, like you stated I don't think that will do me that much good. I really don't want to go with jack plate. I'm not trying to get every MPH possible out of it mainly looking for good performance and getting into the proper RPM range.
