Need Machinist! Help!

I live in upstate NY. Need to get my 60hp Evinrude bored and honed. Having a hard time finding a machinist that can do it. Does anyone on here know of any in NY or a State close I can get my block done at???

Check motorcycle shops. Automotive ones don't usually have the gear to bore a blind/semi-blind hole, bike shops do.

I sent mine out to a guy in PA,( maybe it was ohio?) probably anyone you find that says they will do it....will be sending it out to a third party.

I had the exact same problem years ago when my son and I were looking to rebuild a couple old Honda CB450 and CB750 bikes. There was no place that would do the machining work. So we parted them out and dropped those projects. I guess I could have sent them out. But honestly didn't think that would be a workable idea at the time. I guess that is a workable idea though. :noidea:

I " rent " machine time at a local machine shop.------------Do my own boring.---------Then carefully hone and fit new pistons.------------Nothing to it really.

Your local outboard shop knows where to send them locally. Maybe they will tell you.
racerone, you are experienced and known. I seriously doubt any machine shop is going to rent machine time to a novice.

I found a place called PWC Engines in the NYC area. Going to box it up and send it to them. I called my local marina and they had no idea. They just purchase new power heads and install them. Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Sign of the times, I guess. Back in the '70's I bored cylinders not only for our own repair business, but also for most of the other local outboard shops. So now they just slap on a new one.
