Hey, first time user. trying to restore my first boat, a '75 aquasport 19.6. I have completely tore everything out of the boat, and im tearing up the water logged floor board to replace it. I have noticed that ants have infested my poly-u-foam. The boat is in relative good shape and i want to do as little possible cutting in the hull and since the foam is contained in two runners about the length of the boat it makes to difficult to get to. Any suggestions on how to get out old foam without tearing up the boat real bad? Thanks!

Re: Need Help!

my friend......im guessing that in a 75 the foam is wet.....that means it has to come out.....and you will more than likely find a rotted stringer or two.

you need to adjust the mentality of "doing as little as possible" to...."fixing it"

the easyest way i have found to remove foam is with a pick axe with a 3 inch wide plade on it....comes out easy as pie........others have used a drill with a mixer like thingy on it.

one of our mods uses a scraper to remove foam...
just do a search and you will see many tools.

id suggest you read the compleated projects forum.....a lot of reading here will save you many hours of fixing mistakes.

cheers.....and welcome to i boats.

Re: Need Help!

I used a sawzall and a pry bar on mine. I just made some horizontal and vertical cuts, then went at it with a pry bar. Check out my thread. Oh yea, look at oops! thread also. He is definitely doing a great job and you will learn a whole lot if you read it all from the beginning.:)
