It is a 4 stroke with optical spark making expensive bits !----Have 3 of them that I picked up for cheap parts.----Not a popular motor anymore.

I can see why it is unpopular, many threads on problems with these. I only paid $400 for it but it is in very good condition, minus the non spark issue haha! I. Hoping it will make a great kicker motor for my fishing boat if I can get it sorted out.

I have to laugh. The stator I bought on eBay now gives me zero spark. I had weak/intermittent spark with the burned one. I get absolutely zero spark now. I tested the ohms between the two orange wires, they checked out per the manual. I checked the ohms between the two brown wires and I get nothing. This replacement stator is junk right?

With that explanation... sure does sound like it.

From what I have read, if the ohms test fails then it is in need of replacement. This is confusing to me though. With my meter set to ac volts (no dva adapter) , I get voltage output between the yellow wires at cranking and also between the two brown wires while cranking. I forgot the values but they were what the manual said they should be. The ohms test does not read anything between the brown wires though. My burnt stator reads ohms between both sets of wires. Any thoughts before I message the eBay seller and return the stator, claiming it’s defective?

There has to be a reading between those two brown wires... and if not, it is faulty.

Hopefully your meter has a low ohm and a high ohm setting... test the stator with both settings. If no continuity at all (or the wrong reading), the stator is faulty.

Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge. I tested it high and low ohms and nothing between the brown wires. I’m convinced it’s defective, just like the one I am trying to replace.

I do a lot with eBay in selling off my remaining stock... and any electrical item such as a stator gets checked by myself personally before it goes out the door. Strange that the seller obviously did not... hopefully an oversight.

Well I put a new stator, regulator/rectifier and power coil in it. Fired right up as soon as I turned the key and purred nicely. I just had the gas line shoved into a plastic gas can. Finished installing the motor on the boat, ran the control wires and connected the fuel line to the main gas line. I used a brass t connector with a brass check valve going to each motor. I also installed a fuel filter before the primer bulb for the Evinrude. Started it up again and it ran nicely for several minutes and then it starts to idle lower until it sputters out and dies. I tried pumping the primer bulb when it started to idle lower and it did not prevent it from dying. I repeated this several times and it seems to idle lower until it dies after several minutes of running. Does this sound like I need to rebuild the carb [i have a carb kit already) or is it from the way I hooked up my gas line to the boat fuel tank? Does it need to draw in air somehow like a gas can with the air vent on top? Any ideas?

Test run the motor on it's own tank.-----There is more to running 2 motors off one fuel supply.

I thought if I had a check valve going to each motor then it couldn’t suck air. Maybe the fuel pump isn’t strong enough to suck gas through the check valve. The main tank should have an air vent. I put a short fuel hose on the Evinrude and sucked some sea foam into the fuel pump and carb by running it for several minutes. I’ll leave it sit overnight and maybe it will help with any obstructions. I did check the fuel pump screen and it looked clean.
