Re: Need help on buying a boat!!!

I do think I'd reconsider my OB only decision if I was boating in fresh water. Almost everything I've had go wrong with my I/O's was saltwater related. If it weren't for the whole corrosion, risers, manifolds, etc problems I don't think I'd be so against them.

I guess the best part is raising them right out of the water. It would be cool to get deisel outboards :)

Re: Need help on buying a boat!!!

I think the maintenance prices (for freshwater) for dealer/shop work are a wash, because I have been hit with big outboard repair prices in the past...but anyhow, here in upstate NY with a short fresh water season, I havent spent 3500 in repairs on my I/O boats in 10 years of boating....seriously, change oil, boots, plugs impeller at multi year intervals, and that is it. I have never had to rebuild a gear case or outdrive, and never engine breaks. maybe I am just super lucky.

I have smaller old outboard fishing boats, but I dont love the noise and 2 stroke smoke from those rigs.

If I had money (HA HA HA) I would love a nice honda 4 stroke powered runabout, and keep my bigger I/O cabin cruiser. Best of both worlds.
