Is this the correct way to install the impeller..? I have a Mercury 40 4stoke EFI that was the way it looked when i took it off the waterpump... all the video of DYI states it should be running/turning clockwise, the way it's shown on the pic runs the drive shaft counter clock wise... Lost here

Are you sure the DYI relates to your motor. I would want to put it on like it came off. Put a little grease in there before you put it all together to help it out when you start it up.

Re: Need help installing water pump Impeller

a few weeks ago i ran into alot of sand and cause my pee hole to clogged up, not knowing i ran the motor for a few min and it started to overheat... Now when i run WOT the motor over heat... I'm thinking is it because the impeller changed direction (is this even possible) thus not creating enough flow into the motor at high rpm/wot thus causing it to overheat..? all the videos i've seen on youtube explain/shows the impeller installed by turning the impeller/drive shaft clock wise... that's where i'm in need of expertese advice.

The fins will be in the correct position as when installed turning clockwise fins to the rear. Trying to put them in the oposite direction is not advantageous in any respect other than when you start it the fins will reverse to there correct position Install as removed and if theres a problem it won,t be the impellor. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100507184423AASqSwv I like this answer the best " it really isnt that big of a deal which direction the fins are facing because when the gear is engaged the rotation will flip the baldes into the proper direction if you useed enough lubricant. i like to use cable glide or olive oil, dont use petroleum based lubes because they will degrade the rubber

im a mercruiser certified marine tech" (Maxz695) -->> I guess even the Tceh was wrong about when the would flip to the crrect position. They would flip as soon as the engine is turned over.

Folks -- you are looking at the housing upside down. The impeller is installed incorrectly. Look at the housing as it would installed.
