Thanks drrpm for the reply, and for understanding that everyone was young once and did occasional stupid or reckless things. I ask anyone who still wants to tell me that what I did was morally wrong without also providing some helpful information regarding my questions (as drrpm did) to please not reply. No one knows the circumstances under which I got these tickets, and it really isn't your business at all! To assume that I got completely hammered and recklessly drove a boat around the lake, putting the lives of other boaters and lake-goers at risk, is very arrogant.

This is the internet. Attempting to instill moral values in someone via an online forum is pointless. I have a family, I have friends. I have discussed the moral issues with them.

I'd still love to hear anything else anyone has to offer regarding NC BUI's.

Like I said earlier...wildlife laws,no plea bargains,just like a parking ticket...pay fines and go on. This will not leave you with a criminal record. Wildlife laws are a whole different ballgame and lawyers ain't in the game! unless you want to play double jeopardy.

Years ago , I had a BUI. Not proud of it. I could have killed or maimed someone.... It hurt my wallet and I had the three hot's and a cot thing. NOT pleasant. I learned my lesson though. Beer and Boat don't go well together for me...by the way .. I got pulled over on the water , and had done nothing wrong.... my BAC and my beligerent attitude cost me dearly. Good luck , and I hope you learn from this.

Not here in PA. The BUI law mirrors the DUI law with the exception of losing your boating privileges for a one year period, not your drivers license.

I agree, but that is something that should have been thought out BEFORE operating a boat under the influence.

I know you don't want moral lectures, but as a responder to accidents caused by stupid decisions, please use this as a learning experience and never put yourself in a position again where you are operating ANY KIND OF TRANSPORTATION after enjoying adult beverages (lawn mowers, bicycles, motorcycles, boats, cars, planes, ATV's, PWC's, etc.). Have responded to calls casued by DWI on most of these (planes are the exception) and not of them were pretty or enjoyable for the driver of the victims.

Cut the guy a break....he is a young person and he got lucky that he did not hurt anyone to learn this lesson. His empty wallet will serve as a reminder to him, as it should be. We all make mistakes when we are young. What makes us better people is learning from our mistakes. Good judgement comes from experience,..... experience comes from bad judgement.

Since you don't like my sarcasm or the sarcasm of the others responding negatively here, let me give you some straight forward advice. Stop posting on a boating forum about allegedly violating boating and wildlife laws or whatever area it falls into. If you want legal advice, seek it the proper place. If you want more of what you are getting, post away, but stop complaining about. And if it's not our business, why do you insist on pushing it out here.

Each county and or prosecutor has a history of handling cases like yours. The same with judges as well. Only an attorney can tell you what to expect. 50 people here can say they were fined X dollars, suspensions, whatever. But that doesn't mean your situation fit their situation. A judge may decide to make an example out of you if he feels it's warranted. Your attorney may be a golfing buddy of the judge. The judge may have a family member or friend who was the victim of an under age BUI boat operator. Who's to say? Are we talking felony or misdemeanor charges? More variables. Get help! Get an attorney is the only advice you believe here.
