Qualifying is in progress at Chicago for the first Chase race, With 16 cars so far, Edwards is currently on the pole.

In an unprecedented move, nascar has added Jeff Gordon as a third wild card due to Front Row and Penske making a deal to get Logano into the Chase. Both Front Row and Penske are on probation through the end of the year and no fines announced. Logano stays in the Chase. I think it was handled as fairly as they could and only Truex was dropped from the Chase.

The story: Gordon added to postseason picture

I have a feeling the nascar will be making some rule changes before next season starts.

Well, it is Friday the 13th after all. Maybe 14 Chasers next year and 15 the year after.

Logano on the pole for the Cup race. Jeb Burton has the truck pole, which starts in a bit.

EDIT - Hope you and yours are not in danger. CO is hit hard.

NASCAR has turned into a joke. Why stop at 13? Why not 14 and put Truex in there too? After all, he didn't do anything wrong. 15 sounds like a nice round number. Haven't read the article yet, not in the mood......

And to top it off we get to listen to Mikey in the booth, the guy that started this whole mess. You would have thought they would have kept him away from the broadcast at least for this race.....

I think NASCAR did the fairest thing they could have done, and Don was pulling for the 24 ... But it is crazy!

Crazy, but prolly right. The fact is there is no difference between what happened and giving your teammate the lead for one lap and a bonus point early in the season. There will be changes.

No doubt, nothing against Gordon. Funny how Mikey didn't say a word when they just talked about Gordon making the Chase and broadcasting part of Gordon's interview..... I guess he does know when to shut up.......

I honestly think that Gordon should be in the chase, when all this BS happened he was in it, but 13 is a joke, I would have been fine if NASCAR would have bounced every MWR car out of the chase, I think that would have made more sense then what happened, plus it would shake the teams to the foundation, nobody would ever dare do it again.

The only reason why they did not is because of NAPA, but in the end where does NAPA fall now anyway? They could very easily dump MWR at the end of the season, who wants to be associated with a cheater? Hell maybe NASCAR knows more then I give them credit for...

Anyways, the Truck race is boring...LOL

One thing can fix this mess after the fact. Sponsors! NAPA and 5 Hour are both talking about their sponsorship money to MWR. That's a big hit if they pull away. And MWR may not be able to survive without that money.

We are fine, My oldest daughter is isolated from us because she is near the Wyoming border and there isn't anyway to get up there now unless we go to to Kansas or the other side of the Continental Divide, but she decided to go on a pack trip up in Wyoming anyway, got to love her, she lives in the grasslands (albeit high enough to not worry about flooding) and when the biggest flood in history hits her town she goes horse back riding...

This is actually what I love about NASCAR. No drugs, no criminals, no nuttin' cuz of sponsors. They will absolutely have the final word.

I find it amazing after 40 years of watching this sport, that we have to spend so much time talking about one race, NASCAR needs to pull it head out and realize who is paying the bills, that is the sponsors and the fans, without them, they would be nothing.

Damn it, lets get back to racing and stop all of this nonsense!

Almost is the key word, I remember a race in about 1975, where the King, Richard Petty, dropped the hammer to do a burn out and ran straight into the starter stand! I admire drivers for their skill and really don't pay much attention to anything else.

I would be interested in knowing the age ranges of those individuals who each and every week comment on these race threads, it would be very enlightening to me to find out how perspectives change over the years.?

Anyone game?

If the Twerp would have splattered, maybe we would be back to 12 in the Chase...... I bet that will be the last time he pulls that maneuver........

Wim,

I am also 51, when I watched Richard slam into the scoring stand I was 11 years old, my mother was a BIG nascar fan way back when, it is amazing how much life I have lived since that day.

Just to add, I remember the days when they call Dale Sr. and others "Twerp" Dale was a nasty ***** driver and he was mean! So was Richard, and a host of others, if you wanted to watch a great race, look for some of the archive footage of Jr. Johnson's races! Those were mean races.

LOL
