Nascar 2022 Daytona 500

We have the first races of 2022 at Daytona and the first points race with the Nex Gen car. The Coliseum was an exhibition race and meant show off the new car. The trans-axle in a couple cars had trouble. No teams brought back up cars and 42 cars signed up. McDowell won 1st practice and Blaney won the 2nd session. The weekend Cup Schedule;

Wednesday - 8:05 - Cup Qualifying, (single vehicle, one lap, two rounds) FS1, MRN
Thursday - 7 p.m. Bluegreen Vacations Duel 1 at Daytona
8:45 p.m. (approx.) Bluegreen Vacations Duel 2 at Daytona
Friday - 6 p.m. - Cup Third Practice
Saturday - 11 a.m. - Final Practice
Sunday - 2:30 p.m. - Daytona 500

Qualifying is under way. Top two get the the front row in the race. Hemeric and Bubba are the top two qualifiers through 12 drivers.

With 32 drivers making a run, now Chastain and HBurton are the top two.

Well, I have no idea what went on. Can Nascar Daytona more confusing?

Genuinely a little surprised in last night's qualifying. Even with the new cars and minimal track (and R&D) time, Hendricks still fastest by far, and even the Wood Brothers who are historically fast at Daytona are in the top 10. Of course we're talking single car runs, but still, the teams always fast there are still fast.

Joey got spun on the last lap. Thought he would have dropped down after he passed the slower car on the outside. Buescher did and Joey went down to block and that was that..

Pretty silly to throw a block when he was in good position to start the 500 up near the front. With the low volume of cars and parts the teams have right now, the risk vs reward just wasn't there. Though, I'd expect the same move in the 500.
