This made by Fullerton thing was found on in the water on a boat ramp so I think it may be a transom tie down. I need two more like it or similar to finish a trailer protect but can't find a name to do a good search for it. If you know what it is or could help me locate two of these new or used I'd be very greatfull. Thanks!

Yes it is a transom hold down, they were popular many years back, haven't saw them in a long time. Used for smaller light weight boats, the "U" shape fit over the transom then the spring loaded over center latch pulled the chain tight when hooked on the trailer. When I was a kid I used to find lots of them laying on the road and at the ramp as people didn't pay attention to their proper use.

There was a set on ebay last week.

I think they lost favor because the spring, chain and locking lever can damage the hull of the boat.

Discussed on another forum, as an authentic vintage feature/accessory for a vintage boat/trailer.

Go to the hardware store and get a storm door spring deal, and make your own. About 5 bucks.

I looked at springs and hardware at Tractor Supply Company. They stock all sorts of springs but I need the latch to pull it tight and lock it down. I could fab it up but that's an all day project for a shade tree like me. Speaking of TSC I run the $89 tractor seats with the suspension in the Valco Bayrunner. They are the best mod I've ever done to a boat!

Are you still looking for a set of these old school transom tie downs? I know that I have one brand new one out in my shop somewhere, but I would have to find it. I used them on my old antique wood boat. Also, I know where there may be a full set of two if my friend still has them. You can have the one I have, but you would probably have to buy the set. Doubt it would be more than $20-$25. Let me know and I will check on it next week.
