It doesn't matter if there are Sandworms in the bay or not, that lure is a Sandworm imitation.

The Sandworm is mainly (and incorrectly) called a Bloodworm and they're available in most of the bait shops around the Chesapeake Bay area and up and down the east coast.

The Sandworm is a favorite bait for fishermen targeting Spot and Croaker... and a Striper won't hesitate to eat a whole one, and that's what that lure was made to look like... a whole Sandworm.

Where I come from they call those King Ragworms and they can grow to over 2 feet.Average is about14 ".They can also give you quite a nip.

Yep, the Good ole XXX, The original version was about 10" long , Packaged in Inferior Plastic --Whether it was A Tony Accetta lure I Can't remember --Tony Accetta , Was a local Lure & later was sold to Luhr Jensen Co., --This lure the XXX Was the rage , Not on Big Blues , But when the Bay bluefish were in The Growing Stage , At one time ALL we had were Snapper Blues ,Then Choppers These grew Larger every year , Eventually Giving us the "Gorrilla" Blues of the 80's ---XXX as Lures Looked like Gars, Needlefish, Sand Eels, & at the time Bay waters Teemed with these Type Bait fish , Especially in shallow Areas like Sharps Is . & Gum thickets, Poplar Is. --Homemade versions showed up with Double hooks , etc later -, Made with Toilet Chain & Nylon Strands --Would they work today ?I personaly havent seen Schools of these Baitfish types Lately –geo
