OK , with some help from the boys here at iboats , I've got the starting problem solved and she starts and runs great.
Due to a series of storms and winds up to 70+ mph it's been hard to get much done but I've got it past the top of the hill , so to speak , and now to just re assemble the interior and the boat will be as ready as I can get it until painting weather returns.
The trailer is another thing all together . Needs a little tlc as well . Paint , replace the carpet on the bunks , etc. Nothing serious but time consuming.

Great news that you figured out your problem with the engine. Interior work seems to go fast, trailer work isn't as fun.

Another nice day other than more wind . Got the rub rails finished up and tried to tie in the carpet where the stern cap meets the gunnels . Will see tomorrow how it looks after the glue dries . Pulled the bottom of the doghouse in and mounted it, still have to re re re cover the turtle shell for the top of it. got most of the tools out and passenger seat re mounted so she's comin along pretty good.
The winds are up so tomorrow I will mount the speedo head and install the transducer for the fish finder. Will take the cover off and start finishing up any odds and ends .
I'm not sayin nothin about a splash , seems to be a sure way to get delayed some more !

Looks like it's warming up there, hope you're out the way of flooding that's going on around the country.

Been beautiful all week with temps in the 70's and high 60's . Fortunately I do not live in a flood plane and although I live next to the Sacramento River , there is a very large flood runoff slough out front that keeps the area from flooding.
Took the side guide bunks and uprights off the trailer and painted the uprights. Bought some new carpet for the bunks and am replacing same today . I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get the boat off the trailer long enough to replace the carpet on the supporting bunks but i think i am developing a plan but would need to find someone to babysit the boat down at the ramp while i try to quickly replace the carpet . I dunno.

Just take everything you'll need to replace the bunks and do it in the ramp lot. You could even replace the bunk boards and have the carpet on them ready to go.

Took the side guides off and replaced what was rotten and rapped em in some new marine carpet. I think the plan will be to finish out the buffing ( I may try some color sanding at the bow to see if i can get rid of the rock chips ) and then roll under the trailer and take the staples out of carpeted bunks . A lot easier to buff the boat without the side guides in the way .Then i could drive down to the ramp and once the boat is off I will yank the old carpet off and roll out the new stuff . I can tack the carpet into place good ( if i get to feelin froggy i might and air up my 27 gal air compressor and put it in the back of the truck so i can just staple them into place at the ramp) right in the parking lot and then pull the boat back on the trailer and it would be a done deal ! :joyous:
Anyone ever paint a trailer with an HVLP gun while the boat was on the trailer ?

Well good news and bad news I guess. Good news is that I finally got all the parts to replace the wheel bearings in the trailer and they are installed. Two new tires to boot and the rims cleaned up and painted a nice glossy white. Scraped and prepped the trailer and shot it with rust reformer and it's nearly ready for paint. Took the boat to the ramp and got my brother and law to keep an eye on the boat after I launched it and then took the trailer back home and put new carpet on the bunks. That is the good news.
/the bad news--- I fired up the engine after I put the boat back on the trailer at the ramp and when I shifted into forward gear there was a slight grind but I shifted it slowly and thought that was why the grind. When I pulled it out of gear it hung in gear for about a minute and then shifted out of gear. I then shifted into reverse and it went into gear with no problem but again it did not want to came out of gear right away but did after about a minute. BUMMER , thought I had this solved but looks like I've got to pull the drive again and put the jig back on the shift arm then start from scratch again. Dang . Was a real hard to figure out adjustment and I'm not looking forward to round 2 but I'll get er dun somehow.
Was making plans for the first trip out next week , guess I'll have to cancel those plans unless a miracle happens and I can figure this thing out.

Not sure I've ever heard of a stern drive slow shifting out of gear, isn't it all mechanical with cables and such on yours from your hand at the shifter to the shift shaft on the drive?

Hey Waterman-- I posted the problem in the OMC section and Lou C. responded saying that this will happen if the RPMs are too high and that the ESA won't work right if the idle is too high so maybe that's it. After breakfast I'm headed back out and make sure my idle is correct and test again. Would sure be nice it it were that simple this time.
On a different note , I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with your latest acquisition , Looks like you might be getting a little buried in projects but at least you CAN go fishin when you want to . :joyous:

Let's hope that's the case and a simple idle adjustment is the fix. I really know little about anything outside of Mercury IO and OBs.

I have really had a problem with this shift setup . Bought a new ESA and trying to figure out the best way to wire it up . There is a wiring diagram about the system available but there is also a ballast resistor that would be a short cut .Costs more than 40 bucks in comparison to 15 bucks if I build a circuit myself. Got to say though , I would have more confidence in the CDI manufactured part that I would my own soldering jobs of making my own.

Well it sounds like you know what you're doing though and I'd rather be doing some work on anything besides a new fuel tank and the trailer but rather be out fishing if the wind would ever quit maybe I will!

You'll get it all ironed out.
