My MFG Niagara project.

This will be a long project and really can't get started just yet. Hopefully not starting a post too soon!! The boat was my late fathers and I inherited it and brought it home last month. It will need a transom replacement and some other tlc!! It has a 40 hp Evinrude with it, but I would like to update to something with a charging system and single cable steering.

As we all know, pics., pics., pics........ Here are a few pictures of the boat and where I am with it so far.

Added 12 in. wheels/tires and temporary lights for the trip home. Also removed the engine.

A previous transom repair that was done very poorly gave me no choice but to remove the inner skin along the previous cut lines.

Wood is completely soaked!!!

Got most of the wood removed, but am at a point where I am wanting to remove the floor to do the transom job correctly.

That is where my first question comes in. Has anyone removed a floor in a MFG with the fiberglass stringers?? I don't want to damage the stringers removing the floor!!

You cut the floor/deck out with a circular saw set to about 1/16" less than the thickness of the decking material. I will prepare you though. Boats of this vintage with a transom in that shape, usually have wet rotting stringers too! Hope for the best but prepare for the worse.

WOG, the MFG boats have a fiberglass stringer system as far as I know. The only place there is wood, to my knowledge, is the dash and the transom. I would like to cut the floor where it is tabbed in. It is a solid fiberglass floor. I will try to get some pics of it tomorrow.

I knew that!!!! I just wanted to see if you Did!!!!:facepalm: Seriously DUH, I really did know that I just was NOT thinking. Check this out. http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...g-rebuild-getting-started-pics-523969-57.html If your deck has NO soft spots then just cut it back about 16" to give yourself enuf room to get to the transom. Save the cut out piece and you can prolly glass it back in. Pics will be a great help.
