Born in a US Army hospital in Germany and raised in the Northern Midwest. Will be 60 next month and though heat and sweat are uncomfortable bitter cold hurts! All-in-all I'll stay here and live it out with joy and family.

I agree too. I am where I am to support my aging parents. San Diego is great!

Have family in Fla., Maryland and Montana. All nice places but I think I'll still stay put.

If I was to relocate I believe I'd be singing the old James Taylor song and be heading to the Carolinas.

Well which is it, they are broke or they have a surplus after raising taxes to meet their needs? (Ya can't argue it both directions at the same time.)

I travel quite a bit and see some poor states but even in my home state of Missouri its BLATANTLY obvious the state needs to raise taxes to support the infrastructure. Some of the worst roads in the nation, very poor schools, poorly paid police forces (you get what you pay for), etc. I would gladly pay say 5% more state tax to improve the lives of my friends and neighbors.

You can make that donation, the 'gubment will accept it.

If they have a surplus . That means they took to much from the people that put it there . They should either save it for a rainy day , spend it on something worthwhile , or do what should be done and give it back to the people . So they can spend it how they see fit .
For the life of me I don't understand what is so horrible about that concept . Some people just love spending other people's money .
That's just my take and I will leave it at that .
I would really love to visit California one day but I will stick to living in Florida . Drove down A1A today along the beach . Absolutely beautiful ! :joyous:

Yep, that is because Gov Moonbeam has taxed the snot out the people. Even with that they keep figuring out new ways to blow the largess. If it isn't high speed bullet trains that won't carry their own weight, it is some other scheme or giveaway.

I will be waiting with 'bated breath to see the results of the campaign to split California into to six regional areas free from control of Sacramento.

I don't really like earthquakes, mudslides or even fires, thank you. Mid-west has their tornados; South-east has their Hurricanes; North-west sees sunshine less than we do; N-Central has bear crap in your backyard; Texas is actually 2 countries - divided by San Antonio.

I prefer to live where there are real changes in seasons and definitely where the weather stays outside - all the time...Thank you

I will stay here in FL. Its 7:43 Am and its 65F. High today is 75. Other than August and early Sept its not bad. As far as the mountains and snow that why we have airplanes. That's a myth about the bugs being worse here than other places. But to live here and not be on the water??? Whats the point? There are lots of inland homes on other areas that are nicer.

Re: My gosh, now I know why folks who DON'T live in CA. can afford fun stuff!

Sounds a little monotonous.

I can't stand heat, feel pretty miserable with anything over 80*, or 70* if I'm moving, or over 60* if I'm working.
I don't mind the cold so much, but our rainy season seems to be "on my days off".
But this has been the longest coldest stretch I have lived through ( 100 days ).

I'm 2 hours to the Mississippi, 2 hours to Lake Superior, 2 hours to Lake Michigan, 37 minutes to the WI river, and several thousand smaller lakes and a few million acres of state and national forest land within a 2 hour drive.
3 acres of land I can shoot on, 3 car garage, house, and my taxes are $1250, per year. Electric is cheap, $60 or so a month.
I love the spring summer and fall, tolerate the winter.
There is no way I could live this well, with the skills I have, anywhere that I know of.

almost exactly the same here except my prop tax is 2400 and Lake Superior is farther away.

In CA...NO bugs. No such thing as a screened in porch. Yes, being able to drive to the mountains at anytime I want is a huge advantage.

I love it when people say, "yeah other than blah or blah months it's not that bad". I think I prefer where every month is great. Life is too short to live in a place where you are miserable during certain months out of the year.

They'll say that's boring. They're missing the point that at home our weather is awesome, but we can drive to any season we want and it is close by. Oh well.

When people brag about how cheap it is to live in a place, there is usually a very good reason it's cheap.

Interesting debate.....always seems to pop up.
Quality of life is what is key....and its never been associated much with temperature...almost the opposite over history. Your well being and happiness is tied to a lot of stuff outside of sunny days....but hey, everyone would like a few nice 70? days in the middle of a northern winter...I know I would. I suppose it comes down to what you are used to and what you call home.;)
Regardless, this list of cities is pretty interesting and makes some sense...although (again) nothing in the top 20 from Florida.

I for one am content to stay where I am. 1hr from Chicago, 1hr from Milwaukee, 1hr from Madison, 40min from Lake Michigan, 30min to a very good hospital, great local schools, great community and of course the family.

Wife works for a great company that has opened 4 new centers in the last few years, Vegas, Atlanta, Boston and Dallas/Fort Worth. We could have relocated to any one of those places but chose to stay here. For better or worse this is home.
