wow...i hadn't seen this thread before. guess i'll be replacing the welded on safety chains on Starchief trailer with stouter ones bolted with Grade 8s, pronto.

duuude, my heart broke for you reading this thread. Every boat owner's worst nightmare. first of all, I'm glad no-one got hurt. Second of all, I'd be devastated if this happened to me and my Starcraft. here's the kicker...

I have a crappy rusted trailer coupling - aaaaand a brand new one sitting on my basement stairs waiting to be swapped out. My boat ain't moving until it's done now. So sorry about this mess - and thanks for the lesson.
