My 1957 evinrude fleetwin 7.5 is in need of help. Got the motor running and after some convincing it decided to turn over and run! for some reason though it will only run with the choke on even after idling for some time. After one of the many choke fails the water quit running though the unit and I believe the pump or the pump impeller is shot. Any leads on where I might be able to acquire one of these? Also any ideas on what the deal is with the choke? By the way thank you tashasdad for the previous help if you happen to read this thread, it was greatly apreciated.

Sounds like your cab is dirty dismantle it and give it a good douching with gumout and compressed air, also replace the needle and seat along with a new float. Pay attention to the high speed jet, clean throughly. Water pump replacement requires removal of the power head. Parts can be had here on Iboats.

Did you try the obvious (simply adjust the high speed knob a tad richer)?

Re: my 57 evinrudes waterpump

soooo i must have skipped over the part where you told me about taking the power head off but a couple of hours later it was figured out (read closer right) after that everything was simple new water pump and some carb cleaner later and its running like a top! Any ideas on a new project? maybe something slightly larger but still easy to learn on?
