I owned a few Chrysler Grand Voyagers with the 3.3 engine and A604 gearbox, towed what we'd call a 'caravan' I think you'd call a 'trailer' (seats, beds, cooker, sink, toilet, etc, on wheels lol, weighing just under 2 tons). The caravan had brakes but the weak points were the engine not really being powerful enough for hills and the weak A604 / 41TE transmissions. I changed a few A604 / 41TE transmissions lol. But maybe yours is a newer model that uses a different engine (Pentastar?) and newer design stronger trans?

I wouldn't want to tow my boat with the Grand Voyager, the 3.5 Nissan Elgrands I've owned more recently have been a far better tow car with a bit more power and more stable towing, plus the transmissions don't self destruct and the Elgrand has switchable 4wd, but obviously there are far better tow cars out there. I'm not sure I look forward to towing my boat on it's unbraked trailer over Welsh / Scottish mountain hills but I'll get there.

In England / UK any trailer above around 1500lbs should be braked on all wheels/axles to be legal but my boat trailer isn't braked. I can tell a big difference in stopping ability between towing my caravan (brakes on all 4 wheels) and towing the boat (unbraked). Been thinking about adding brakes to the boat trailer but haven't looked into what that would involve or cost. Would it be a case of needing to change the axles?

the only way to tow a boat greater than 1400# dry weight (reference the math in post # 4) with the 2015 minivan in post #1..... is to drive down to Uhaul/Hertz/National/Etc and rent a truck with at least 5000# towing

Bayliners of the 80's had a small cuddy in the 18ft range.

The port windows in the cuddy are a tad different which from what I've found on Google changed through the model years. So its a very safe bet you're not looking at a Doral but rather a Bayliner.

Smallest cuddy with an I/O is 19ft at 2200lbs. By the time you add in everything we've been telling you - gas, batts, trailer, etc - you are over your max tow on your Minivan. You can't escape that. Sorry.

If you insist on going down this path, you may very well end up a YouTube sensation for all the wrong reasons.

Going to agree, looks like a mid 80s Bayliner capri cuddy, including the little bend in side window top rail

The big red flag is why is it being sold as a Doral?

Look up the HIN

Yes, that boat is not a 1996 Doral. Google 1996 Doral 216cc (the smallest cuddy the have) and you will see. Then Google 1985 Bayliner Capri 1850 cuddy.

The boat you are looking at does not match the description

User manual is about as useful as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs. It will tell you the pointy end is the bow, and the end with the motor is the stern. Not to run over something and basic rules of the water.

There should be enough red flags now that you should be walking away from this boat.

*It's over your maximum tow for your minivan. You are in denial if you think otherwise.

*It's not the right manufacturer or model.

*Owner has no clue what he has. Hint: It is listed on his ownership papers and it will match the HID on the boat. IF the owner is insisting this is in fact a Doral, have him supply a picture of the HID AND the paperwork showing he in fact owns it.

If proven to be stolen, it will be confiscated without any payment to you. You will have to be able to prove you did not know it was stolen. Receiving stolen goods is a criminal offense if you knew it was stolen.
