That's one less cottonmouth anyone will ever have to worry about! Stupid thing actually charged my direction. One clean shot with the .22 made quick work of it. Also took a close look at where it came from on the bank but seen no signs of babies. Will have to keep an eye open.

Oh yeah, now I'm Mrs. Bubba's hero. (That is a temporary condition I'm sure.)

I figured it was only fair to leave it in the water for the catfish. That and I was't keen on swimming out to get it.

I figured it was only fair to leave it in the water for the catfish. That and I was't keen on swimming out to get it.

You do know the venom is still active so if it gets to shore and a little child plays with it, it can still be a bad deal. Better to retrieve and bury the head somewhere safe.

i would come across those things when i used to survey land, i would sneak up on it with a forked stick cut with my machete , pin his head down with the forked stick then just lop his head off, or if i had a shovel handy a quick thrust takes off his head, careful though i was sneakin on one that struck at me and i swated at it with the machete and cut off its head just before he got to me' could have ended badly

If you didn't retrieve, it might be on the bottom healing from the little nick. Then it will have a vendetta against you ... tread carefully, my friend, they can be hard to kill.
