Ayuh,... My guess is still it's original, 'n the same vintage as the hull,...

if there's a Merc number on it, it'll be down 'round the starter,...

'n yer pictures are backwards,...

Interesting...you got some of the photos mirrored (flipped). makes 'em look a bit ... odd.

Take pictures of the motor frame just above where the starter bolts on.

I have tried to starter but the ignition switch doesn't turn the motor but i have hit the starter with a screw drive and it turns but i didn't wanna start it with out the outdrive and it being able to suck up water. the horn and blower works thats as far as I've investigated since its gotten cold. i just wanna know the year so i can get a new outdrive for this application. or if you could guide me in the right direction to which outdrive would be the correct one?. I'm just looking for the top since the bottom is in good condition.

It should be an Alpha 1. What parts are missing on the back?

According to the pic above your fuel pump is not connected and needs replacing. Also need fuel lines to get the fuel to the carb

Yea, that fuel pump doesn't look so good. Make sure you use solid metal or marine approved rubber line for the pump outlet to carb inlet. The other fitting is the "tell tale" and should be clear.

Rubber fuel line from tank to fuel pump (barbed fitting)
Need line from other side of fuel pump to (white) fuel filter
From other side of fuel filter to carb

Cable to the starter doesn't look too healthy either...

I have 2 black wires which i believe are negs for the starter but I'm not sure since there are 2 wires going to the starter but 4 bolts so that may be the missing link to why the key doesn't work when turned.

Re: Motor year??

In one of the photos in the link above you showed a serial number of 3252209. Looking up that number in the parts catalog serial number range shows this engine/drive combo should be in the 1972-77 range. I believe your engine model is closer to the 1970 range like in the third link. Hope this helps, good luck.

Ayuh,... I think you'll find the fuel filter goes on the vacuum side of the fuel pump,...

Metal line from the pump to the carb,...

When your right your right, sorry my bad

Kjeremy2 - You mentioned what it would take to replace the parts in the outdrive but did not mention why those parts were missing to begin with. Don't know how you came about the boat but you might want to make a list of what all the needs are, and what it will take to fix tem. Take that list and add up all the cost to bring it up to speed. You may find it would be best to walk away

Either way iboats will be here to help
