motor wont run under load

i have a 1981 evenrude 60hp outboard. the motor was running great all day and i stopped at the boat ramp for a minute and started it back up and the motor just boggs down when i put it into forward i dont know what to do its getting spark gas and the air intake is good. but it just wont go someone told me i might need a new coil is that possible and what can i do to test it

Welcome to iboats. you need to start with basic trouble shooting. do a compression check, record the numbers, also do a spark check should be blue spark, and just atleast 1/2 inch. seeing this just started, when and what was the last maintainance done on the motor. how long have you had it. then we will start looking at different parts to replace. post your findings.

check the throttle linkage ,be sure it is connected to the timer base under flywheel,it connects by 2 plastis ball and sockets that break,also be sure your getting fuel,squeeze the ball, your pump could be bad
