hey guys!

i have a 1987 four winns horizon 170 with the merccruiser v6 175 hp motor, the motor is shot and i can get my hands on a mercuirser 350 counter rotating engine with mercury I0 drive out of a four winns of the same year. my question is would i be able to swap the 350 into my horizon 170? if so how much tweaking would i need to do to my boat? thanks

oops!

Re: motor swap question

hi....lets get you swapped over to the i/o forum.....we are restoration freeks here in this section of iboats.

ok....if the v6 is a 4.3.....not much.....
you will possibly need to change the coupler depending on the age of the motor
weither its a one peice mains or two peice.

the gears in the out drive may be different depending on the hp rating of the 350 vs the 4.3
the 4.3 has 187's in it......the 350 or 5.7 uses taller gears....a 165 i think.
you can over prop the 187's with a 24 or 25 inch rake, this might get you to the magical 4250 or 4500 rpm wot (whatever you choose)
the 165's will go with a smaller rake on the wheel but get you to the rpm range.
your top speed between the two will be a personal choice depending on the use of the ship!
