I was laid off Jan. of 2009.I ran my 2001 90 hp. Johnson the last time in Dec. of 2009.I put stabilizer in tank before going out on water.Have not started since.boat is stored in garage.I have been under employed since and haven't had extra money to take boat out.I am starting new job soon and would like advice on what I should do to prepare engine for start up.I've started older two strokes I own (small) after sitting for long periods and they ran good.I always ran them out of gas before storing and started with fresh mix.I am leary of starting this one.thanks for any replies in advance.

can anyone tell me if I would need to remove and clean carbs,or anything else that would need to be done.

A set of new spark plugs, some fresh fuel/ check the lower unit gear oil/ a fully charged battery and touch 'er off. Run it briefly on the muffs, and if it starts good, put her in the water and stay close to shore for a few minutes. Don't be to quick to run it at full throttle. Give it what it needs, not what you want to give it.

The safest bet would be to put some fresh fuel in. But since you drained the carb before storing it, I bet it would fire up fine on the old gas considering you put stabilizer in it.
