Hello all. I've posted before regarding this engine and have gone through everything I know to do and has been suggested to me. Engine fires right up, idles perfectly fine, but dies as soon as I try to put it into gear, both forward and reverse. It is a 1974 johnson 50 hp. 50esl74. I have gone through the complete tune up and servicing the service manual suggests and am stumped. All cables work correctly, lower unit is in perfect shape, timing is right on, carbs have been rebuilt, fuel is being delivered, have compression, nice spark. I am out of ideas. Please help!

Disconnect the shift cable and shift it manually.
I suspect it will not quit.
