I just purchased a 1965 glasspar goldcup (avalon). I just got done with tear down and now I'm on to sanding. I will post pictures of restoration. On my mind right now is motor selection. I live near lakes that only allow 4strokes. I want to keep that old look but also want reliability, and most of all not a lot of money. What would be a good choice of motor???

If you want a 4 stroke you're pretty well screwed on the "old look" requirement. (unless you find an old Homelite!)

The new engines are mostly smaller than their older counterparts. Why not fit an old cowling over the modern engine? Or get a guy at a custom motorcycle shop to put the old marks/decals on a newer engine?

I have to agree with jim.....the motor cowling is an empty palate.....you can strip it down, paint it any color you want, and put any decals on it....it may not be the same shape, but it will look close......just an idea
