On the android I found that unless you have an app like Touchdown it can be hard to work with.

Weird...takes less than 2 minutes on my Nexus devices to set up. All you need is the server name, account name, password and you are done!

It is the older servers that are hard to get going.

Well I bought the windows phone, because it was the least expensive and I can go to another service in the future, I really only need a phone when I am traveling, I would have bought a flip phone, if I could have found a reasonable one, that I could change SIM cards in, but couldn't find on in the area I live in.

Using Samsung S3 mini right now and have been for a while. Rogers as a provider and never had any issues wherever I am in the world. Unlike previous providers that left me without service in parts of Asia. Phone does more than I will ever use.
