Does anyone know how or know anyone who can get some extra hp out of this motor so I can run my Lowe 1650 SC welded Jon 10mph instead of the 8.5mph I am getting now. The boat is brand new I am limited to a 9.9hp motor for my lake they check serial numbers but need to know what I can to to get some extra power or the absolute most this motor will or can deliver. I will have it balanced and blueprinted and other if necessary but I am looking for someone who knows something about this motor. 2012 Mercury 4 stroke 9.9 Pro Kicker I have already taken the big four bladed prop off to get to 8.5mph from 7.5mph and replaced it with a three blade 8 pitch 12 tooth but I need to find a prop that is 6 or 7 pitch to try also since it only hits 5,000 rpm.

Get a smaller boat... Asking a 9.9 to push a 16-footer is asking a lot...

putting a 7 pitch to gain more RPM will not nessecarily increase MPH. It will help get on plane faster and create less stress on the motor and as stated thats a big boat for that lil engine. Depending on the diamiter of the prop be it 10 or 11 a smaller prop of diamiter and more pitch 12 P may help some as the motor will net be as restained by turning the monster prop

Performance parts don't exist for something like that, and the 15hp block is bigger than the 9.9 block, so you can't make a 15hp out of it at any cost, short of replacing the powerhead with the 15hp powerhead, along with voiding the warranty.. 2 MPH is no big deal in nautical terms.. I mention 15hp because it is the next HP above 9.9 in the Merc 4 stroke lineup.. If the 15hp carb is bigger and will bolt on, you may be able to pick up a little power, but that's still a lot of $$ for 2 MPH

If you were really serious about modification , there are small turbochargers you could add and make it work with some fab, but they are hard to find being so small. You won't get that setup past the HP police

+1. I have a 12 foot Gregor aluminum fishing boat with a old 9.9 Merc on it. If it's just me in it, this thing gets up on plane and goes like a scalded dog. Probablt hitting 20 mph. When a few others get in the boat it maxes out in the 7 or 8 mph range.

Money is no object I was thinking about having in balanced and blueprinted and maybe milling the head some, having higher compression pistons made or some mild porting but does anyone know if a 2012 15hp power head can be put on this motor or should I be looking at a 2008 Mercury with electric start and power tilt and convert it onto a 15hp and do the same mods to it. 2mph may not sound like much or be much but traveling across a large lake at 10.5mph and hopefully 11-11.5mph with the right prop is a far sight better than 8.5mph and worth it to me. I would be open to other engine manufacturers also if that would help.

I have a 2012 pro kicker I use for a trolling motor on my 20'. I think that part of the trouble your having is that the motor was designed to have a lot of torque at low speeds. Thus the 4 blade it came with. The pro-kicker is a high thrust engine and I'm pretty sure it might have a different gear ratio than the standard 9.9 engine. The older 9.9 mentioned above is a very different animal than the pro-kicker. Before I got the pro-kicker I had a 9.9 evenrude 2 stroke and it would easily plane my 14' jon. My new prokicker would not get me on plane in the same boat, same load though I never tried a different prop. The new pro-kicker does give me much better trolling and boat control on my 20' than the evenrude did.
