When you put the final layer of jb on, wet your fingers and smooth it out. Then I took a cotton rag, and lightly pressed/dabbed it to the Jb, making it look like cast. A little good black rattle can paint and it looks pretty good.

I have some high temp black rustoleum. I may shoot it with a bit just because. Lol.

Toneybrown, I really feel for you. We just bought a used boat with a popped freeze plug and I am scared that we will have a situation like yours. One thing I noticed in one of your pictures, the drain plug is missing from the exhaust manifold. Don't know if you pulled that out before the pic but noticed it was missing. To pass on a lesson learned, those plugs are brass and going into cast iron so be careful tightening that one it does not take much to strip it. Best of luck to you and hope you are on the water soon.

So, I'm assuming the next step is to pull the manifold off? How do you test it after that?

Remove riser, secure manifold upright and level (clamps, wood blocks, ratchet straps, etc), fill the water jacket with acetone until it's almost level with the manifold's riser water ports, then check for external leaks and up into the ports with a flash light. Leave it for 15-30 min, to let the acetone seep through, if it's going to leak.

FWIW, acetone will leak through a crack that water won't leak through.

I see what you are saying from the picture, but when I pulled the manifold there was a brass plug. Not sure that is a hole, just looks like one in the pic.

Great news! The JB weld has seemed to work! Not sure how long the fix will hold, but hoping for the same results as others have experienced.

New strange issue, I will start a new post if needed.

When I had the boat in the water the first time, the timing was off and shifting would cause the engine to stall and die. So, after running it long enough for everything to get warmed up I attempted to shift into gear with the tilt in full up. The engine would stall and try to die if I didn't shift back to neutral fast enough. This happened for forward or reverse.

However, if I lowered the tilt down below full tilt a little (still up but not all the way) the drive would shift into gear and the engine continued to run like normal.

Is this normal for this type of engine and alpha one gen 1 drive? I don't think it would cause a problem as the drive would shift when it was still pretty high, just not all the way up. Didn't try shifting and then bringing all the way to up tilt, not sure what would happen if I tried that. Depending on response I might test it out.

Thanks again everyone!

with the tilt in full up.

Don't know what the dying issue is, but All your trying to do is bust your U joints and tear your drive up

Noted, won't be testing anything out again! I will just make sure the drive is down, and hopefully everything will work! Now I need some time off and some good weather for another lake trial.
