Not sure where to start with troubleshooting my Honda outboard charging system. Early seasonal prep the battery inadvertently hooked up with polarity reversed. Two (2) start attempts before noting polarity discrepancy. Three on water trips later charging system warning and subsequent check shows no charging, battery voltage only. What procedure can I follow to determine what maybe wrong, .e. rectifier, charging coil, etc. Thanks to all for your considerations.

I should add the battery was new at early season prep.

start with painting/taping the battery lugs and cable connections RED
most times the charging system is AC voltage to the rectifier.
Start there , disconnect. the yellow leads and read the AC voltage,If in spec reconnect and read the DC voltage. if 0 rectifier has failed

Some searching around on YouTube provided these two excellent vids on testing the stator (link) and the rectifier (link). While not your exact model, I suspect this will help get you going on the testing. Good luck!
