Re: MO Boating Destinations???

He has the jug tournament every year, mostly his ironworker buddies. I'm makin some homemade floats out of swimmin noodles and pvc pipe. Havent tried it yet, it's the latest in "flagging" jugs! Going to try them out Thursday on the mississippi. I'll let you know how they work,, it's all pretty new to me to, but now that i have a boat i can give it a go.

Le tme know where you go tomorrow and where you put in, i might be going out since its so nice out. No i havent put in up there yet and no fishing to report. I have been fishing mostly on the MISS by heartland marina. The ill river is gorgeous though compared to the miss. No one is ever really up there and it is alot calmer.

Re: MO Boating Destinations???

I just bought my first boat a few weeks ago and I am trying to break my wife. She has never boated before and was scared to death at our sea trials on the Mississippi River. I am now trying to get her to the local lakes fo get her more involved. Are there any any quiet lakes to take her too. I have hear the Lake of the Ozarks is a little on the choppy side because of boat traffic. I am in the St. Louis area

Old school 65,
Yes, The Lake of the Ozarks can be choppy. Have you tried Kinkaid Lake in Murphysboro IL? Nice lake to cruise or fish. We like to go there in the fall, lots of trees turning colors. Depending on the size of your boat, Carlyle lake in Illinois is nice, but can get rough when the wind picks up.There are a bunch of camping sites at Carlyle all around the lake, and a few around Kinkaid. We just got back from Carlyle this weekend, had a blast and the water was great.

Mark Twain Lake in north east Missouri is a nice quiet lake. Large lake too. I've never been to Kincaid but also hear its nice. A little small though. Carlyle is a large lake but I find it to be boring. No coves to check out, very shallow and typically the water is nasty. Lake Lou Yaeger in Litchfield IL is a nice lake but not very big. Depends on your size boat. It's a good lake for a small runabout. I go to LOTO and love it. No where around will you find such a fun lake with tons of coves. It does get rough but there are areas that still remin relatively calm. You could head to Kentuky lake. This is a huge lake, never been there though. Lake Springfield in Springfield IL is a fairly good size lake. Lake Shelbyville is also a large lake. Not much to do there outside of boating.
