Re: MO Boating Destinations???

Heading out tonight after work for about an hour or so on the Illinois River, putting in at Pere Marquette. Gonna check out some of the backwater lakes. Will let you all know how it goes.

Didn't even make it in the water...My outboard would not even start, It had been sitting for about 6 weeks but ran fine last time I tried it. I am going to tinker with it tonight at home. Its a shame because it was a beautiful night!

Anyone going anywhere this long weekend? I plan on heading to my honey hole for about 4 days to catch some nice bass.

I finally found a Cuiver River access near Hwy 79 that seems to have good depth for at least a half mile. I will try that as soon as I get my engine running again. :(

Skeeterboy: How did you do this weekend? I went out to do a little bank fishing on Ellis Lake right before you go over the Clark Bridge in Alton. Caught a couple nice bass. Tons of cover in this lake.
My boat should be ready this week. Found out the 2nd cylinder wasn't getting any spark so parts were ordered and I am just waiting now.
Gamonman: Good news about finding a way in to Cuivre. Let us know how it goes.

Supposed to have some pretty decent bass fishing. Another lake out I-70 just about 10 miles east of Columbia is Little Dixie. Another 10 horse, no wake lake with pretty good bass fishing. You could probably try running on Mark Twain lake in the back ends of some of the bigger creek arms that have lots of timber.

Here's the MO. Dept. of conservation's atlas website. MO conservation atlas

You should be able to find both Hunnewell and Little Dixie on there with directions and lake maps and other info.

Sounds good. I did some bank fishing last night. I caught a 4lb largemouth and a couple other 12 inchers. Bass were still in shallow guarding their beds(I was really surprised). I was t-rigging a U-tail red bug worm.

Glad to join this discussion.
I live in Saint Peters and just accquired a boat. I plan on concentrating on the Mississippi 10 minutes from my home. I'd like to learn how to drift fish out in the channel. Anybody have any tips or websites that talk about it? I saw Bill Dance do a program on it right in front of the Arch.

Today, we put in at Two Branch Marina.
No fishing, just fun in the sun and tubeing with the boys.
Sunday, tomorrow, the four of us will do some tubeing as today, but will also do some catfishing. I'm making this rig to go on my stern to hold the poles, gonna just drift out in the channel.
I have never done that, but have been wanting to give it a try.

How was it you caught your cats?

Two Branch? Is that closer to STL or north by graffton? Since there is tons of lay downs i find them and the current tie up so current is going past you into the structure or wing dikes using a large carolina rig with a 2oz or so egg weight with a 10" leader to either cat fish dynamite dip worms or a hook using a cutbait or nightcrawlers.
