I just purchased my first outboard, which I plan to restore; however, it is missing a piece and I have no idea what it is or where to get another. I have attached a picture of another motor with the missing piece highlighted. Can anyone tell what this is or where I can get one?Evinrude.jpg

Re: Missing Piece

That is the cowl latch.

Check out the salvage yards listed in the FAQs or post a wanted ad on the webvertize of the aomci.org

Salvage yard will likely be your best bet, or even try ebay. Most guys wont want to rip apart a cowl to remove the latch, unless the cowl is parted out already. What is your model/serial number? Ill post the part number to search with, although it is likely 277232.

I dont want to assume that the pic posted is the same model as the one you have though.

Thanks. My model number is 15016, based on what I've found, I believe it is a 1956 Fastwin 15.

Re: Missing Piece

Then yes the part number I posted is correct. It may be superseeded by now, not sure.

If you end up having trouble locating one PM me.
