Milky gear oil

I just bought this 4.3L. My first boat, let alone I/O. I didn’t know the maintenance schedule on it. Cold weather is coming and I need to winterize it. So, I decided to change everything I could think of. Even though it looked good, I changed the gear oil by draining it, then pumped new oil in from the bottom until it came out the top. Next I put muffs on it and ran the motor to warm the oil for an oil change. I turned off the motor and all looked good. Then went around the house and turned off the hose. When I returned to the boat from turning off the hose, I saw milky white oil running from a hole on the right side of the outdrive. Did I somehow force water into my newly changed gear oil? What caused this oil to leak out and why is it milky? What is this hole for?

Pull your drive (you have to anyway to check alignment and gimbal bearing).

You're going to be replacing the raw water pump and it looks like at least a seal or two

The hole is a drain for the exhaust cavity

I’ve been searching the web. Having trouble being confident I’m choosing the correct repair kit. Can someone point me to a good resource or the correct part numbers to replace the water pump assy and the seal effete cord above? When I search I get 817275Q05. But, some sources describe that as for 200hp and more. I think my 4.3 is 190hp.

here is a link to parts breakdowns for 98 and up alpha gen 2 drives- it will be in the gearcase driveshaft. Not sure how old an how many hours you may have multiple seals leaking, as Dr says likely the the driveshaft seal below the water pump. Pressure testing is the best way to determine if you have a leak or have fixed post seal replacement

Seen plenty of them where the shift shaft seal leaks. Pressure/vacuum test is in order.
