milky discharge

im in need of some advice.. i have a couple things going on. i have a 25 horse, long shaft ,2 stroke evinrude,77. first, i have oil showing up on the shaft, right below the head of the motor, looking at back of motor, its on the left hand side, running just below where the head and shaft meet. second,,i am trolling type fisherman,, what i find after i ve trolled for sometime,, when i put the boat in neutral and it continues running,i see spotty deposit of a milky substance showing up on the water.please keep in mind, i ve owned this since 88, never seen salt water, i just did the lower foot oil and seal a lil over a month now,,i was told to" run a hotter plug" the milky stuff is unburned/fuel/oil do to slow speed operation.. i do mix 50:1..please advise,, and i thank you in advance for any advice.

The milky, foamy stuff is indeed unburned fuel, and is absolutely normal on those old motors. It is not gear oil. And when it foams like that, it is usually a combination of temperature, water temperature, oil brand, speed, and whatever other variables. Hotter plugs won't make any difference. I assure you that I've seen the same stuff come out of my own motor and the effect went away by itself. Use bio-degradeable synthetic outboard oil if it bothers you concience.
