Re: Mercury vs. Volvo

Based upon what I read here, neither drive is superior if the owner does not keep up with the scheduled maintenance.

The Merc has become what the Chevy used to be... a useable, affordable "blue collar" drive.

An ex-partner in my business used to love European cars. He would brag about how they performed and in the next breath curse the fact it always cost him $500 or more everytime he took it for service.

I dont spend more than 2 minutes docking in and out on a BAD day so if the clunking is the best you can do keep trying :)

The merc GEN II water pump is the harder to change but the longest lasting i have seen on anything

BUT then again compared to changeing some inboard pumps its easy :)

Re: Mercury vs. Volvo

I would use either drive
as long as it is matched to the motor/hull.

I have a volvo.........
50 bucks for 2 SS screws..............
