Mercury controls for Johnson?

I have 15 hp johnson J15ELCEC that I want to convert from tiller to remote. I've seen someone that has a full setup at a good price, but the controls are for a Mercury. Can that work, or is a major difference in how they work?

I always thought the two systems were incompatible, due to throw length, at least. There may be aftermarket controls that can be adjusted to fit either.

Thanks for the reply. Guess it will take more research.

Not just length, direction, too. Mercs are very different from Johnsons in shift pattern - they won't interchange... Get the correct controls.

Chine, the Johnnys push the throttle open, right? Merc's pull the throttle open.

sorry to piggyback, but I would be curious about that too -- have an old Chrysler Sailor that I want to use, and the shift operation seems to be opposite of the control boxes I have (pre-Merc/Force, but might be able to use a Merc box).

You see those controls bought and sold all the time. There's no reason to jury rig stuff.
