Mercury connecting rod direction install?

I'm reusing my connecting rods with new pistons and in the process I lost my notes on the facing direction of the connecting rods. Does anyone know if the rod serial numbers face up to the flywheel or down? I have them installed up now but am second guessing my work now. My repair book does not mention this at all so I'm also wondering if it really matters. Any help would be appreciated.

That is the direction I have them facing now. In another forum someone mentioned on this rod it really does not matter. Your thoughts?
