Mercury 90hp engine trouble

Hi. Would you please help. I am knew in boating.

My old Mercury 90 hp Starts then deis with clincking noise nad black smoke coming from the propeler. Found some black oil and gas at floor and bottom of engine. Also, on the top part of the engine I found some shreded brase form a rod that seems to couple with A large circular Plate when the engine is running.

The black smoke and oil says the engine has a carburetor or fuel pump problem and is running verrrrrry rich. A check of choke operation, carb rebuilding, and fuel pump overhaul are suggested. As for the brass filings, something is obviously rubbing in the area of the flywheel so its removal and inspection of the area is necessary.
