Mercury 85 HP and Force 85HP?

I have an 85 HP mercury and have gotten my hands on an 85 HP Force. Will the lower unit on the Force bolt up and work on my 85hp Merc? I have heard that some Force lower units will work on Mercs. I would appreciate any info. Thank you.<br /> Ben

Try to order from a parts outlet and see if serial numbers match up.

BFann,One thing Merc was doing with Force was installing Merc gearcases.Chances are if they physically look the same,they will swap.I am not sure about the gear ratio,but the first time out the RPM's will tell you.<br />DHP

BFann - I have an 1989 85Hp Force. I ruined my lower unit back in 1994 by hitting a rock. The shop replcaced it with a Mercury lower unit.<br /><br />I still have it and it still runs well<br /><br />Jeff
