I have an 2003 Mercury 60hp Outboard.

My Tilt and Trim is acting up. If i am raising the motor while going it does not want to go up. If I am at a dead stop and punch it the motor lifts up.

It goes up and down fine out of water unless i put pressure on the motor.

The oil is full and no air.

Please help.

Thanks in advance, John

Re: Mercury 60hp Tilt Trim Problem

The most likely cause would be o- rings but it could also be leaky absorber valve or metering valve. these are only few of the things I can think of.
You'll need a book to troubleshoot the trim unit to be sure of what is is.
Reminder THESE are pressurized you can be hurt if you are hit with high
pressure oil. There is a risk of crushing if the motor falls without warning.
So please be careful ...

Re: Mercury 60hp Tilt Trim Problem

Hey thanks. I'm a Lowrider Hydraulics guy., but in hear it is all compact. I said forget about it and just bought a rebuilt unit. Do they normally have a whiney sound going down as aposed to a quiter smooth sound going up?

Thanks in advance.
