1996 Mercury 2 stroke/ 4 cyl C40ELPTO serial number: 0G368744 (MERCURY 40 ELPTO).

Well, boat runs great with new fuel pump rebuild. I was hoping it would get rid of the long alarm, I was told, could, be due to the old fuel pump leaking. Wife ran it for 1hr 10min and then, the long alarm went off. She was running slow. Often, she was noting a steady stream out the pisser. She says the cowling feels hot. Does the speed you go affect these motors? 55 degree water Puget Sound. Any thoughts? (Seloc repair manual arrives 8/10).

Sealoc manuals are to generic, look for an actual Merc manual for your motor! Yep they cost more but well worth it!!

Bought the OEM Mercury Manual - thank you!. I know the long beep is an overheat. The manual says nothing about troubleshooting an overheat. If it does - I cannot find it.

My Merc does run hotter while running slow. I think that is due to the impeller not spinning as fast and moving less water through the block. The manual should help you replace the water impeller.

Thank you. Impeller and housing looks good but going to replace it. Next going to look at thermostat. Problem is I cannot find it.
