mercury 20hp leg removal

i have just purchased a boat and this 20 hp motor was stuck in forward have removed cable and can get neutral but wont go into reverse at all have removed 2 nuts (one at back of leg and one underneath but i cant get the lower unit off .
i have mechanical background but newish to boats but stumped on how to get leg of to sort out reverse issue
any help would be appreciated

Could you state the year of your 20? It makes a big difference. If your motor has a trim tab, there may be another bolt under it. You may also have to disconnect the shift shaft---all according to which year motor you have.

not sure of year as serial 8017834 does not come up but i suspect mid 70 to early 80s

Model # needed.
Crowleymarine.com has parts diagrams and such for your motor back to about '68. The diagrams may tell you what you need to know.

This looks to be a Canadian serial number maybe?

does your 20hp have a wrap around metal band with locking tabs in the front and separate hard aluminum top? If so there is a third nut to remove under the zinc trim tab.

If it has a 1 piece fiberglass top, then it is later than 1980.

would any one know the model and year of this motor i know its a mecury 200 (20 hp) serial 8017834 but dont know anything else have got leg sorted but need parts for remote control was put together wrong cables were reversed throttle on gears and vise versa and has broken cam in controll box
ps i am in australia

1. Manufacturer (Mercury)

2. On LH side, click s/n search

3. Scroll down model list to 200 and you will see this s/n range:

8006265 - 8045198

The 8 denotes Australian built engines and your s/n falls in this range. Unfortunately there is no way to cross reference the year of manufacture on this search engine.

Highlight the s/n range and select Diagrams and this will take you to your engine. However, your engine appears to be tiller only, so it would seem that someone has added the remote controls.

If you can send a picture or P/N of the control box, I can get you the parts listing for that box.
