I got the tdc, but it doesn't align with the top cover timing pointer. Do I remove the flywheel and align it to the pointer? Or how to do so?
Btw, the boat was on the land I bought here in Texas and finally was able to get it registered after years finding the owner.
Thanks.

You need to get a service manual to properly sync and time the motor. That said, the flywheel key may be bad. You may need to pull the flywheel and inspect for damage.

Before you go tearing things apart, verify that you got the TDC correct.

Key is good, and I have the manual. Had to replace the stator and trigger, carbs were rebuild.
Upon checking timing...is way off, and too far off from timing pointer.

Oops, sry..let me explain better. Idle timing is way off at plus 10 instead of of 2-+°

If the timing is off, then someone has been messing around with the engine.

There is no Idle Timing Spec.

Well, when I got it (for free), the flywheel was not on it and no stator and trigger. The screws to adjust idle and wide open were messed with also.
I got it to run, but everything pointing to timing.
Hard to start, backfiring ect...

You need the Factory Service Manual, it will have the Link and Sync process.
Flywheel was off engine? Was the Flywheel and Hub off, or did someone just undo the 8 bolts that holds the Flex Plate to the Hub, leaving the hub on the crank shaft?
