can any one help me and tell me how to test the stator on my mercury 150 hp 1980.i dont know what wires to test for current.thankyou

CDI has very good instructions on testing and diagnosing electrical parts. They can be found here: http://www.cdielectronics.com/Support.aspx

Click on "troubleshooting guide" and find your engine.
