The wrap around cowling appears to be from a 1965 model.----Distributor certainly is from that era as well.
That seems to be the evryones thoughts. Now if i could find a serial number of some sorts it would help me out a ton lol i just want to start buying parts to get it running!

Look above the transom clamps and below the lower cowling.----They used to have a quality stamped plate there with serial #-----Yours would be in the 1755 range I suspect.

I have looked all over and dont see it. unless its stamped in and there is a bunch of grime covering it. Im going to pull it out today and wash it up and see if that will show it.

Likely covered in grime.-----Those plates never fall off or fade away.---Not like the poorly thought out laser printed decals they use today !!

The dual Fuel Pumps, dual Coils, also scream mid 60s
The disk is likely hidden by the upper cowl support

You should be able to remove the Cowl Support without dropping the gearcase, it hangs off the top of the Powerhead

@jimmbo so I have the cowl off. Would the plate or disc be on the cowl supports or do I have to take those off too

Likely under the upper cowl support. Here is a pic of my old engine with the Rear and Front supports removed from the upper, which is still attached. It also has the water jacket cover off.
But do what racer suggested, look on the Tilt/Swivel Yoke for it first.

There's no disk on the older engines, check the starter support bracket or the top of the block .

@merc850 that plate is definitely not there. I can see the two holes where the plate would have been riveted in. I'm gonna pull the cowl supports to see if there is one there also.

That motor may be a little on the Hot side, even when not running

One thing's for sure. it is not a 115.
Likely a 100hp or a 90hp. - 1965
if a 66, then the choices are 110 and 95
67 is out of the running, in 67 they only had a single Ignition Coil

Ya I'm think the same as far as it running hot when not running. Made a newb mistake and not doing more research before picking the engine up. The only issue I'm gonna run into now is everyone is say 65 66 year but when I go to look for parts there is multiple options for the same size engine in that year so it's gonna be harder to try and match parts. Also now I need to figure out what to even do/what I can do with this engine if it is hot.

I meant that more as Joke. That said, when you bought it, there was no Serial # on the Receipt?

Take a Spark Plug out. Does it look like a regular Spark Plug
1659522868692.png

or is it a surface gap?

In 66 Mercury started using surface gap plugs

You will find, that the Parts people will always want a Serial #, because that is how Mercury indexes it engines, and allows for production changes during the Production run.

I believe the cowling shown in post #19 is clearly a 1965 version.
