What has been done up to date :

-Siphoned the old tank's fuel leftovers, added 20 Gals of 95 octane E8 fuel.
-Installed a new water separator filter at lower transom.
-Installed a new fuel filter and probe side to the VST.
-Removed heavily carbon build ups on all spark plugs threads.
-Cleaned and shinned all 6 spark plug's booth contacts.
-Installed 6 new NGK spark plugs gaped tight to 1.0 mm.
-Installed 2 new OEM thermostats & gaskets.
-Gear case flush with new oil along new oil change.

Special attention was given to both thermo's mating surfaces, took more than 4 hours with a Dremel tool, healing patience and small SS metal brushes to sand/polish both thermo's surfaces. Pics speaks for themselves...

Before...

Thermo covers were so stone salted that completely lost their circular edged contours.
After..

Mr Dremel took care of the long tedious work polishing all the salted hardened deposits seen before, now both thermos will sit well their new gaskets on their perfectly cleaned round edges.

Block's Thmo Housing.JPG

Thermo's upper blocks were found highly salted and rusted although both were flat sanded still looks flat rusted, this motor was never water flushed with fresh water before in its entire life, old thermostats account for such horrible salty scenario.

Old-New Thermostats.JPG

Just in case have added an even coat of Mega Gray with a thin brush at each thermos mating surface sides to avoid any possible pressurized water loss when at wot.

Would have liked to remove both thermo switches to clean their upper tips, but the available working space is very tight to deal with along fearing to break both upon removal. Wednesday morning is D Day..

We really wanted to try it out at open water today, but due to the Tonga Volcano eruption all recreational outings are closed until further notice, what a bummer. As we did not wanted to remain with crossed arms connected a water hose at the rear flushing port, once the motor begun to water peed turned the key ON and started right up. No fuel spills at any fuel filter nor water spills at any of both t-stats housing whatsoever, Alleluia !!

Was run for 15 minutes at idle, the tell tale pee should increase its flow once the motor is more demanded at speed, the nice thing is that now you can feel the cold/warm cycles going on when placing your palm next to the prop's exhaust, clear indication that both new t-stats are doing their homework right.

While checking the water separator filter at lower transom, noticed both battery terminals and their pins were quite rusty looking, how much can this issue affect the overall motor performance ? For the owner it's OK, not for me as like everything to be pristine shinny. Anyway the water test at open sea will have to wait...
