Mercruiser SternDrive MC-1 vs Alpha; Max HP

The Alpha One stern drive has maximum HP rating of 300, as published by Mercruiser. That said, what is the maximum HP that an MC-1 can handle? Was it ever published?

It seems to me that early MC260, vintage 1978 thru 1982, used the MC-1.

I have heard of 1.5 HD (heavy duty) gears, versus standard.

Does the MC-1 1.32 have heavy duty gears?

Bottom line: new versus used, trying to decide the best route.
