At this point I don’t think I want to mess with any old parts, the old motor sucked in water most likely a mixture of old parts and failed gaskets. I’d rather turn the key and not have any problems. So I’m looking to just get a full package all accessories included or atleast new from oil pan to valve cover and then I can piece all the other new parts together.
if you are looking for a new long block, you can go with either your local engine builder, you can order new GM motors yourself, or you can get one thru places like michigan motorz, marine power, etc.
to that you buy new exhaust manifolds, etc and migrate the other parts
if you want a new complete motor, then see your Mercruiser dealer. if you have a good relationship, you are looking at $12k for a remanufactured motor with new accessories, or a lot more money for a brand new motor. (the new 6.2 with DTS is about $40k from mercruiser)
if you boat in salt water, suggest a heat exchanged cooled motor.
