Hey guys I have a 2002 6.2 377 mercruiser I’m looking to find a replacement engine. I’m wondering has anyone been able to repower with mercruiser 6.2 383? They are cheaper since the 6.2 377 is getting harder to find. I think the computer would either have to be flashed or swapped and I’m not sure about anything else that wouldn’t fit any help would be appreciated, thankyou!

I believe the 383 is just a remanufactured 377, given a .030” overbore. I cant see needing to reflash the ecu for this. Try michigan motorz i belive they sell reman and new base engines

compression ratio may be a little different but i think the ECU will manage just fine.

Boring this motor is do different then boring any other motor (4.3, 350, 454, 502,etc) clear up to .060

Merc programs the ECM fat, so as it's bored there is still plenty of fuel

reman 6.2 https://www.michiganmotorz.com/6-2l-vortec-marine-engine-1996-current

New 6.2 merc longblock

New base engine from different supplier pricing is better

what is wrong with the original engine?

your local engine machine shop can also help you.

the merc 6.2 is nothing but a 350 block, a GMPP crank and GMPP rods

At this point I don’t think I want to mess with any old parts, the old motor sucked in water most likely a mixture of old parts and failed gaskets. I’d rather turn the key and not have any problems. So I’m looking to just get a full package all accessories included or atleast new from oil pan to valve cover and then I can piece all the other new parts together.

if you are looking for a new long block, you can go with either your local engine builder, you can order new GM motors yourself, or you can get one thru places like michigan motorz, marine power, etc.

to that you buy new exhaust manifolds, etc and migrate the other parts

if you want a new complete motor, then see your Mercruiser dealer. if you have a good relationship, you are looking at $12k for a remanufactured motor with new accessories, or a lot more money for a brand new motor. (the new 6.2 with DTS is about $40k from mercruiser)

if you boat in salt water, suggest a heat exchanged cooled motor.
